The study area surrounds the infrastructure of the E40–N43 junction in the south-west of Ghent. This zone sits at the edge between urban and rural, raising key questions about city boundaries and the influence of infrastructure on spatial development. The fragmented sub-areas are separated by major infrastructure, yet share potential as strategic visibility points.

The research integrates existing plans and ongoing projects into a cohesive spatial vision. The focus lies on improving accessibility, enhancing the experience of open spaces, and strengthening green connections. At the same time, it explores how economic and public functions can be smartly interwoven within this complex urban landscape.

B-city bases its approach on concrete spatial conditions and technical constraints, while also exploring scenarios that allow flexibility for future developments. Comparable cases and previous studies provide valuable references for developing a robust and inspiring toolbox.
